LostCherry Takes Aim at MySpace
I’ve held forth many times on the myriad threats facing MySpace, but the real threat to MySpace dominance is evident in the scores of aspiring MySpace killers that have been filling up my inbox with solicitations (given the publicity I’ve received as a MySpace skeptic). I thought I would take a refreshingly constructive approach to the MySpace conundrum by showcasing some of the companies that are out to eat their lunch. Here is the first in a series.

I’m on Lost Cherry, Vampire Freaks, and MySpace. Of the three, I like VampireFreaks the best, but am beginning to like Lost Cherry more. I must say Lost Cherry may not be as popular as MySpace, but is better. You can rate others and get rated, plus you earn points when you rate others and comment on their profile. You also level up with your points.

Honestly, I much prefer Lost Cherry (they call it Cherry Tap now…)over MySpace. I am on both, in the beginning as a lark but ended up staying. On Cherry Tap, I enjoy the points system, shoutbox and other perks…but mainly I LOVE the fact that I can view who has viewed my page and photos – Something MySpace is lacking. That is a feature that sold me on staying at Cherry Tap.
i have both a myspace and cherrry tap account.. i like cherry tap better because it’s more fun for one. like was said you can get rated and rate others and earn points. you can give and get gifts which is cool.. the only thing i don’t like about cherry tap is it’s hard to make your own html code for their skins. myspace is easier to make their profiles for.. however myspace has a lot of strange people protending to be normal that stalk you. i haven’t been on cherrytap that long, granted there are some odd balls but so far i haven’t been attacked or stalked on cherrytap like when i first joined myspace. another thing with myspace is the wild pre teens who are under 14 posing as 16 or more with sexual pictures up. on cherry tap you can mark your pictures as adult and make them private. myspace is also full of more spyware. “tom” as they call him, lol who ever runs myspace needs to change it. there are as many adults on there as kids.. i don’t get on there for all the music bs myself.. and it’s like spam in your email with them! and they spam the bulletins with adds however we are all told not to do that. “tom” only bugs out on members who slip up. not on the naughty pre teens or the perverts or on the bands who go hog wild promoting them selves.. it’s like on big add site and who ever owns it is rolling in big money and don’t care.. cherry tap takes getting use to there is much more to do on it.. once you figure it all out it’s great.. i just wish i could make my own skins.. lol maybe as cherry tap grows more sites will pick up skins for them and ways to pre make your own skin with your own pics etc. so far i keep looking and i can’t find a way to make my own..
I’ve been on myspace for a year, I hate it. I always have. I’ve been looking for other sites where I can customise my page the same way, but without the same annoyances myself has. I just found Cherry Tap today, and I must say, I will be inviting all my friends from myspace to check it out. It’s definately better than myspace, and I’ve only been registered for a few minutes.
i am on the lost cherry site and although its a great place, the censors have descended on it and are deleting photos with lewd content. even some of the face pics are being edited as lewd. they are becoming as much if not more ignorant of the 1st amendment as myspace.
I am on both CherryTap (formerly LostCherry) and Myspace, and immensely prefer CT. It’s more friendly, and there’s a lot more interaction. Also, I’m not besieged by 16-year old boys and 11-year old girls!
I *would* like to respond to Roger’s comment. It’s not that adult photos are being deleted. But the site is making an effort to keep adult photos out of common areas… they’re asking that you keep all adult photos in folders marked as adult so that people can cruise around CT without encountering content that children, co-workers, etc. might find objectionable. While I understand some people are enraged by their inability to post adult photos as their profile pictures, or on their pages, I am personally happier if I am not besieged by adult images, and can instead go looking for them when I so desire.
So, still supporting adult photos — all the adult photos you want, as long as they’re in folders marked as adult, and not used as your profile pic. That’s it.
I also have Cherry Tap and a Myspace account. I like cherry tap features better than myspace. Only problem i can see me having right now is finding decent skins for charry tap. The ones i have found are a tad on the plain side. I do know some html and when i get the time will create my own skin. But i rate cherry tap a 10

i have both a myspace and a cherry tap page. i have been on cherry tap for merely a few weeks and i ALREADY like it more than myspace. I like how you can see who has viewed your page, you can earn points, level up, and give gifts. I also like the fact that it is more appropriate for adults. I’m not encountering 12 year olds on CT!! A+ for CT, and thats coming from someone who used to be GLUED to myspace alllllll day!

I hate LC/CT
The people who run the site are complete power mongers they threaten people i know. delete profiles that have profane language….they are WAY worse than myspace…. I’d rate them up there next to hitler with censorship.
Everything you do you have to do with points which is stupid.
You can’t have personalized URLs anymore like you can on myspace.
myspace now you can have 300 pics on your profile.
Also Lost Cherry/Cherry Tap…….they don’t delete profiles with underage nude pics…..I know this because i reported someone to them and they told me they couldnt do anything about it.
People on there talk major shit about each other it’s like a total civil war on that site.
Most people don’t even go on there anyore and their figures of members still on there or online are all exagerated.
I’d stick with myspace if you don’t want pervs…..fat and ugly annoying people who are wearing clothes or lack of clothes that would make you want to wash your eyes out with bleach.

CT is a much better site than myspace because of the people interaction. CT also has a way to find out fakes and what not, called salutes, this feature blocks out people that steal other peoples pictures and lets you know who is real or not. Now it seems Cherrytap is getting better on censorship and not deleting peoples profiles and what not, overall myspace has limited features and is highly overrated. Also, i have never seen anyone on myspace have over 50 pictures…Cherrytap allows up to 1500.

I have said myspace more than 400 times on my cherry tap account in the few months I’ve been there. I’ve spoken out, and loudly, against underage users, fakes, and the “Not Safe For Work” flagging fiasco. I haven’t been deleted. I see people deleting themselves far more often than I hear of people being deleted.
MySpace is just incapable of censoring the masses of people that frequent it. CherryTap is a community, and they make an effort to keep their users happy. In my opinion, anyway. They’re down right now, doing some work on servers, which is why I’m actually surfing the ‘web. But when they’re back up & running, I’ll return with a link to a survey the Tom of CT posted, BabyJesus/Mike, asking whether CT is better or worse since you’ve joined.

I just wanted to say I have been on cherry tap for about a month now.Honestly I love it!!!!!!I hated myspace cause it was boring and you ended up with alot of stalker pervs like it has been said on here.I also like the fact we don’t have to deal with kids.That gets extremly annoying and that is why I stoped using myspace. I check myspace once ever 2 months and still I really don’t care cause I tell everyone cherry Tap is sooo much better.
I’ve been on myspace for about 2 years now, yes it has its fall back but the name cherry tap is sleezy. I’ve had both for awhile and everytime I was on CT my IE would freeze, it took for ever to load, comment, rate. I’m on cable modem. and to top it off its sleezy. My girlfriend has damn near nude pics of herself on there and that pisses me off, let alone the arogant comments %99 of the pigs leave under her photos. In my eyes its just another site waiting to have niave girls get stalked, raped, killed. When will people learn. Plus, honestly who wants a girl that 3/4 of the world has seen naked. Its not “classy” at all, and niether are the women that display themselves on there.
I used to have a myspace account and it got to the point where i hated to sign on to it… i couldn’t really find my way around it.. Then i had a friend tell me about Cherry Tap and i will never go back to myspace…(plus i can;t remember my screen name or password) LOL.. Anyway i have met alot of great people on CT…

Hi Jeff you may want to rethink the gf thing.
Jen makes a good point, its the pictures drawing the piggish comments and would happen on any site where such pictures are posted.

I like Cherry Tap better over all.But it is new and I have had a hard time setting up a layout and getting music on my site.It is much easier to do all this on My Space.I also like that teens aren’t allowed on this site.I hate My Space has been taken over by teens and undercover cops due to the teens. I absolutely love cherry tap! I feel so much safer on it than I did on MySpace even though the set up is almost the same. I love the points thing too.
Well guys I’ve been using Myspace now (mostly for the music) and I have to say I’m not sold on its usability. I just may have to come by and check out CT for a personal comparison.

I have both, CT and Myspace. I like CT alot more. I feel I am finally in a place more adult like. They allow you to add comments to each other , have a shout box which is like an IM. Rate each others works and such.Even have lounges you can go hang at and chat to friends in those rooms. They are a bit picky upon the pictures used they warn you, all you have to do is click a little box intending to block under age viewers. People are more friendly, and you can communicate easily , where as in myspace. you just kinda sit there with only the friends your started out with basically.

I have a myspace, CT, and now an Afterparti account. I loved CT AT FIRST. However, the NSFW and not being able to speak my mind has definitely turned me off of it. I have now been on Afterparti.com since it started. Yeah, I had to pay a $2 age verification fee. However, that insures that there aren’t little kids running around on the site. I can put whatever pictures I want up, say what I want, do what I want. I don’t care about points and levels and all that jazz. I’d rather people come to me for the person I really am, not what my ranking is. lol Afterparti has a shoutbox, blogs, forums, bulletins, crush alerts, shows who’s viewed my page. A lot say its a knock off of CT. I don’t think it looks anything like it at all. I love Afterparti and will continue to remain there. At least there I know I can be the adult I am and not censor myself or conform to what others want me to do. AFTERPARTI is AWESOME and I love their staff!!!!

I have another thing to add. lol I recently deleted everything but one picture from my CT page. Reason being, they kept giving us the run around when we went to support for answers. About 15 of us sat there for 20 min to a 1/2 hour waiting on someone. They want money for this money for that and half the time, the site doesn’t even work. The beloved lounges were down for days, and the next day when people tried to get on the site, it was down and couldn’t get into it. When it was LC, it was so much better. Now all there ever seem to be are problems. I know sites have down time, but that’s just a little too much down time. Then, when someone when to BabyJ with a ? He cussed them out. Now, let me get this straight, we’re not allowed to cuss, but he can cuss out a member who has brought people to the site, promoted the site, etc.? To me, that was a huge X. Then, if you say something they don’t like, then they ban your privileges. To me, that’s ridiculous. Whatever happened to Freedom of Speach? I guess this Site doesn’t like upholding our constitutional rights. Therefore, I give this site a big 0. BTW. If you find someone who you believe to be a child, all they do is say to the person. Are you over 18? If they say yes, then they leave them alone. Real effective let me tell ya!!!

I also have to say I kind of understand babyJ’s shortness. I don’t condone it but its hard doing what he does everyday.
Its a really tough subject protecting certain segments of the population while protecting the rights of others. What we’re experiencing on these social networking sites are birth pangs. I am excited to see what solutions the future holds. And you know what i like the most? This is very much a user driven revolution. Its us that will determine the future of social networking sites and that I think is the coolest part of it all.

Yeah Jeska being able to see who views your profile is a really good thing. Myspace would do well to add a feature like that.
