What have you done for her lately?
Blog Challenge
As a response to the “absurd” claims that radical feminists just sit around blogging everyday and do very little real work in the world, Heart has thrown down a challenge. She’s asked for personal stories, lists or comments about what sort of real world actions have you taken to alleviate the suffering of girls and women.
I took part, and wow before I started writing my list I must admit, I harbored a small fear that these accusations of laziness and uselessness might actually apply to me. Of course it didn’t cross my mind that these ridiculous rumors and uninformed opinions would apply to any other woman writer I read, but still that little irritating critic in the back of my head never sleeps.
Then I wrote out my list. It truly was a wake up call. I have done a lot of real advocacy in the world. Now that I’m settling into a more mature frame of mind reaching my mid thirties it is only natural that I begin to write and publish the things that I know about. And you know what? I know female oppression and suffering from personal experiences and also from working in the world with other hurting people.
Thanks to Heart, I’ve had an opportunity to not just know it, but to really get it. My voice is important, so is my blog, and so is my time.
