Several sightings have been made of the missing girls along both sides of the Ottawa river. But so far, nothing has panned out. I don’t mean to be overly pessimistic, but the same kind of sightings were reported in Alexandra Flanagan, Kristen Modafferi and Cedrika Provencher’s cases as well.
We now know in Alexandra’s case, all were bogus, same with Kristen’s so called sightings. We still have no idea where little Cedrika may be.
However in the spirit of due diligence searches continue throughout the Vanier area.
An historical mecca for street youth, I have a very personal connection to this place. My mother made her home there for a while as did my brother, a generation later.
I recall one family reunion, mother and brother trading mooney eyed stories of scrabbling on the street. Of my brother and I traipsing through the city he loved. His chest clearly bursting with pride as he showed me, his little sister his kingdom. It was a good day. That evening we hung out with a crowd of Bro’s friends on the cliffs over looking the city. It was pretty amazing. Perched way up high to match our states of mind, as the sun sank.
I wish I could say the night was as glorious as the day visit, but it wasn’t.
If Maisy and Shannon are hanging out there, sampling what is known locally as ‘the street culture’, time may have literally slipped away. Its like wonderland for the rebellious. A hodgepodge of kids, and a few adults; “elderly youth”, gurus of the street etc.
It is also extremely dangerous. Whether these girls were taken there, or went of their own accord, IF these girls are in Vanier-Rideau area they are in danger. Simple as that and they need to go home.
