Hazel’s Where are they?: entries

This blog has grown out of my own personal protest against the silent slaughter of women in this country and else where around the globe. I may not be able to do anything to stop the vast documented and undocumented cases of violence against women and girls currently plaguing our civilized communities, but I CAN do something about the deafening silence that allows such atrocities against humanity exist and explode. Make no doubt about it Human Trafficking is expanding.

The slave trade is bigger and badder than ever.

Sex trade work is lining the pockets of everyone from the pimps to the fed’s while many of the industry workers are consumed and out cast to work in survival sex. Street prostitution, low track, low pay, no protection.

In Canada there have been seven hotspots uncovered where one or more serial killer’s have been preying on drug addicted prostitutes and other vulnerable women and teens. Since possibly as far back as the 1950’s.

As listed below:

  • The Downtown East Side (DTES) of Vancouver BC,

  • The Yellowhead highway of Northern BC, dubbed the Highway of Tears

  • The urban area of Edmonton, (with dumping grounds around affluent Sherwood Park)

  • Saskatchewan

  • Winnipeg

  • Toronto

  • And the Niagara Peninsula

Police have apprehended and arrested Thomas George Svekla, 38 with the murder of Theresa Merrie Innes 36 and has been linked to the murder of Rachel Quinney.

Police are now looking for an accomplice of Svekla, possibly a family friend, possibly someone unaware of Svekla’s crimes.

check my tag Svekla for updates to the case, or type his name into the search box on this site.

There has been a possible break in the Niagara Region Serial Killing Case! -June 2006

Back in January of this year, a task force investigating the murders of five women in the Niagara Peninsula, released information to the public saying a possible serial killer may have been responsible for some of the murders. Later that week, the police arrested Mike Durant 33, for the murder of 22 year old Cassey Cichocki who went missing earlier that month.

This past week, Durant was charged with the murder of Diane Dimitry whose body was found in a Welland ditch, off of Whirlpool Roadin 2003.

Two Down? How many more to go?

-Update: July 2007

Two more women found dead in Edmonton, in as many weeks. Community is waiting on pins and needles waiting to learn if these are the latest victims of an area serial killer or killers.

Blue Monday Tag: Follows two trials; that of Willy Pickton accused in the murders of 26 of our missing sisters, and that of Michael Briscoe, Joseph Laboucan (trial complete)Nina Courtepatte. In the murder of 13 year old

Don’t Forget (Dreams)
by Reid Jamieson Feb 2007
recorded at home in Victoria

ReidJamieson-DontForget.mp3

Dedicated to all the lost ladies of Vancouver’s east side. ==========================================================

Don’t Forget (Dreams)

You know
how much it’s gonna hurt
When that needle is inserted
in your vein again

You try
to pretend there is no pain
But I see it in the stains
under your fingernails

Hold on tight,
Keep looking for an answer
Hold on tight
Remember younger days
When dreams were
something you could
say you had

Don’t forget
because the world
forgot you

When night falls
is the newspaper your bed
Does it have you seeing red
What the people with money complain about

You’re drunk
on a can of aerosol
And your tales are getting taller
than the will
to make it work

Hold on tight,
Keep looking for an answer
Hold on tight
Remember younger days
When dreams were something you could
say you had

Don’t forget
because the world
forgot you

You spoil your self while asleep
with sweet precious dreams
Held in the arms of your mother

It’s gone
the fire in your eyes
The face you recognize
is just another
sad memory

Hold on tight,
Keep looking for an answer
Hold on tight
Remember younger days

Hold on tight,
Keep looking for an answer
Hold on tight
Remember younger days
When dreams were something you could
say you had

Don’t forget
because the world
forgot you

  • I have been looking for my sister Patrica Campbell, who was taken from Pocatello, Idaho in 1978. My family would like to have some closer and put her to rest. The police have not been very helpful.

  • Dear Melissa, I am so very sorry to hear about your missing sister. 1978 is a long time to go without answers, my deepest sympathies to you and your family.

May I suggest you contact the Doe Network? They can help put your sisters profile, circumstances of her disapearance, photo and other important details up on their network pages. They operate across North America, Canada, and the USA.

Also, this just occurred to me, but mabey you can source out other family members of missing people in your area. It may be good to develop a netwrok of support for your self, your family members with others who have gone through such things. If you are able to find a few in your area, and you begin putting your heads together, you just may be able to come up with something new about Patricia’s case, or even link her disapearance to others, that may interest the police.

Please stay in touch. If I can come up with any other idea’s for you, I will post them here in this topic.

Wishing you and your loved ones Peace.

    Hazel.

  • Thank you Hazel for the information.I will contact the Doe Network. That’s more help then I’ve recived from our local police department.
    My Family thanks you.
    Wishing you the best

  • Helloe Melissa,

I hope you find them helpful, I have yet to hear anything difficult about using their free services, and I have heard of good endings coming from the Doe network.

Please do keep in touch, let me know how things are going for you, and if you need anything else.

    Sincerely,
    Hazel.

  • Thinking of you today Melissa,
I hope your search is fruitful.

  • Thinking of Alexandra Flanagan today.
    So sad.

When this sadness lifts, I’m afraid of the anger that lies beneath.
